Braves take another step toward Region 5-AA Title

(Bowdon, GA) — The Braves baseball team continued their hot streak Tuesday afternoon in Bowdon dominating the Red Devils 17-5 in five innings at W.C. Roop Field.

The win moves the Braves one step closer to their first Region Championship in 30 years.

Coach Bianco’s squad will host the same Red Devils this Friday in a doubleheader and if they can just avoid a sweep will bring home the trophy and earn an important top seed in the GHSA State Playoffs that begin next week.

Leading the way for the Braves offensively Tuesday were Tristan Brown with two hits including a double and five RBI’s; Quay Daniel with two hits including a homer, three runs scored and three RBI’s; and Ethan Brant with two hits including a homer, four runs scored, and three RBI’s.

After a scoreless first inning, the Braves offense powered back with three runs in the second, six runs in the third, and four runs in both the fourth and fifth to clinch the game by run rule.

Lee Kay got the win on the mound, tossing three innings while allowing just one earned run and striking out five. Carl Lipford came on for a strong inning of relief getting three outs on just eight pitches.

Friday’s doubleheader begins with a first pitch at 4:30 p.m. at HHS and will also be Senior Night.

The Braves have not won a Region Crown since the 1984-85 team that came within one hit of winning a State Championship.
