Braves Wrestling Team Celebrates Senior Day with 50-23 Win over Callaway

The Braves Varsity Wrestling team held Senior Day ceremonies last Tuesday prior to a match with rival Callaway.

The event was originally scheduled to be a quad meet but no shows by two Columbus schools left only the Cavaliers in a single match-up. Some seniors led the way to the 50-23 victory at the Heard High Gym in the last home event of the season.

Bill Singleton, Blake Hardy, and  Tyler Wynn all won their matches as well as Hank Barnes who has missed much of the season with an injury.

Tori Rogers also scored an 8-4 win over his opponent. Blake Hardy and Tyler Wynn have both been dominate this entire season holding records of 21-1 each after Senior night. Singleton has also been impressive at 18-8.

The team has been much improved under the leadership of new head coach Justin Ransom. In team standings the Braves are 10-8 on the year and 7-2 vs AA teams.

They also placed 3rd in Region duals beating Callaway, Carver, and Kendrick.

Significant improvement has been shown over the past three weeks and the Braves scored redemption on three early season losses by beating Bowdon, Cedartown, and Callaway the second time around.

The wrestling team also came up big in a tournament last night as well. At New Manchester, the Braves defeated Landmark Christian 54-22 and New Manchester42-34 while giving up three forfeits and starting each match down 18-0.

Tori Rogers, Bill Singleton, Tyler Wynn, Hank Barnes, Zane Woods, Jordan Timmons all won both of their matches.

The team will ttavel to Lagrange tomorrow before heading to Bowdon this Friday and Saturday for the Bowden Invitational which will feature 17 total teams wrestling on three different mats.

The area individual tournament will take place at Callaway High School on Feb. 3-4 which will be followed by sectionals and the state tournament at the Gwinnett Arena on Feb. 16-18. Coach Ransom stated that he sees potential for several guys to do well with a possibility especially of Hardy and Wynn making deep runs in the tournament.
