Alabama man charged with murder in Trotter case

(Franklin, GA) — The Heard County Sheriff’s Office along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation have made an arrest in the death of the woman identified as 47-year-old Regina Trotter, who was found deceased on Mason Road in western Heard County on the morning of February 1, 2021.

According to a press release issued by the HCSO, 28-year-old Micah Blake Taylor, formerly of Delta, AL and a more recent resident of Helfin, AL was officially charged Monday in Heard County with felony murder.

He is currently being held in Cleburne County, AL and is awaiting extradition to Georgia.

Taylor has been jailed in Cleburne County since being arrested in Alabama on theft by receiving charges February 4.

Investigators believe the vehicle he was arrested in on February 4 is the same vehicle used in some way during the commission of the alleged murder that took place sometime between Jan. 31 and the morning of February 1.

Reports indicate the victim had been in possession of the vehicle after it was loaned to her, but the owner later reported it to be stolen — which initially lead to the Taylor’s arrest in Cleburne on Feb. 4.

The owner of the vehicle (a 2004 Ford Van) is believed to have had no role in either of the crimes.

HCSO Investigator Dan Boswell along with GBI agent Larry Duren are handling the murder investigation.

Boswell says it is unclear exactly when and where the victim was killed.

The area where Trotter was found is on the west side of the small dirt road about 1/2 mile from the Alabama state line.

She was found by hunters traveling on the roadway that morning.

Trotter was allegedly an acquaintance of the suspect and both are believed to have been staying at the same residence.

Authorities are unclear on the motive for the murder but say Trotter’s body was found with a rope around her neck and that she had been stabbed in the neck.

The GBI crime lab is continuing to examine physical evidence.

The case is still under investigation and Investigator Boswell ask that anyone that may have any additional credible information related to the case please call the Heard County Sheriff’s Office at 706-675-3329.

Stay tuned to for further information as it becomes available.
