Councilman announces candidacy for Mayor of Franklin

(Franklin) – A surprise announcement by acting Mayor/Mayor Pro Tem Johnny Adams closed out Thursday night’s regular monthly meeting of the Franklin City Council.

An emotional Adams announced during the Mayor comments portion of the agenda that he would seek the Mayor’s office in the upcoming November election.

“For the last few months that I’ve worked here at City Hall as Mayor Pro Tem, I don’t think I have ever worked with a finer group of people or employees than we have here in the City of Franklin. We are fortunate to have them,they are all sincere, and the few times I have requested them to do something they have done it before I even had the opportunity to check on them– they are very good,” stated Adams.

Adams continued, “I have enjoyed working with the staff here; they have been most cooperative. At this time I would like to take this opportunity to announce that I will be a candidate for Mayor in the upcoming election.”

All council post seats as well as the Mayor’s seat will be contested in the upcoming election on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. Qualifying will take place during the last week of August.

Only three councilman were in attendance at the meeting. Councilman Rogers was absent due to health reasons and Councilman Hamil was attending a prior engagement.

The next council meeting will be held on Thursday, July 11  due to the 4th of July holiday on the first Thursday of July.

    Johnny Adams certainly has the qualifications and experience. He knows HC and has been active in local and state politics. Mr. Adams served us well in many public offices including a long time Tax Commissioner and then serving in state politics for Governor Barnes.
