Elderly Franklin Couple Killed in Crash

(Franklin, GA) — A local elderly couple died in a fatal traffic accident Friday afternoon just north of the Franklin city limits.

Crash 66According to a report by Trooper Kevin Leslie of the Georgia State Patrol, initial indication is that a Mercury Grand Marquis driven by the husband failed to yield the right of way while crossing U.S. Hwy 27 from Five Notch Road.

They were struck on the right side by a northbound log truck driven by Kevin Simpson of Alabama.

79-year-old Mary Waunell Harris and her husband, 81-year-old Bobby Gerald Harris, both of Franklin, did not survive the crash.

No charges are being filed in the collision which happened around 3:30 p.m.
