(Lagrange, GA) — The Lagrange Daily News confirmed in a breaking news article late Tuesday night that former standout Lagrange High School wrestler and 2008 graduate Stefan Smith was killed in the suicide bombing reported by several national news outlets earlier in the day.

According to a report by The New York Times, three American soldiers, four Afghan soldiers and an interpreter were killed around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in the Wardak Province, after an insurgent riding on a donkey detonated a bomb in one of the most hotly contested areas in Afghanistan.

The soldiers were conducting a joint patrol in a violent stretch of Sayadabad District, near the main road leading to Kabul, the capital.

According to the Lagrangenews.com, Granger wrestling coach Scooter Weathers said Smith “died doing what he loved doing. He loved his country, he loved his friends, he loved his family. He loved the LaGrange wrestling program. He’s going to be missed tremendously. There aren’t many people like him.”
