Franklin Police Chief issues scam warning

Phone+Scam18(Franklin) — Franklin Police Chief Kevin Hannah is warning people today about a new fraudulent scam attempt which has already affected some local citizens.

“If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from Charter Bank, do not give them any information,” says Chief Hannah.

“Instead, go to the branch nearest you or contact a customer service representative immediately.”

Citizens are generally advised to never give any personal or banking information over the telephone.

If you get an unsolicited email, text or phone call, always ignore it and contact your bank immediately to verify.

Other surrounding cities and counties also reported similar automated calls today with some using the names of other banks such as PNC or Bank of the Ozarks.

  1. Brianna says:

Glad I hung the phone up I received a call from them today.

  2. The best way to avoid them is just hung up the phone when you receive their calls. Also block their number if possible. I even found some complaints filed regarding these Charter Bank impersonators. They are never tired of trying to steal our money.
