(Franklin) — Commission Chairman Lee Boone confirmed via phone interview today that Heard County Fire Chief Scott Blue officially turned in his resignation Wednesday after he was appointed as the new fire chief in neighboring Carroll County.
Jerry Eason is currently serving as interim fire chief in Carroll County after Tracy Smith’s departure earlier this year. Eason did not apply for the chief job. Carroll County is the third largest county in Georgia in land mass at 503 square miles and a total of 46 people applied for the position.
Chief Blue will work a 30 day notice in his current role before taking over his new job on November 15. Blue has served as Heard County Fire Chief since 2003.
Boone expects to name a successor to Blue sometime in early November. The current Heard County Deputy Fire Chief is Steve Wirth.
“I want to congratulate Chief Blue on his appointment as Chief of the bigger department in Carroll County,” said Boone. “Chief Blue is dedicated to his profession and since his arrival he transformed our department into a much more efficient operation. He was diligent about seeking new grants which allowed us to buy equipment we otherwise would not have been able to purchase.”
“The difference in our department is like night and day since he took over. I wish him all the best in his future career,” added the chairman.
