Heard County Jail Administrator and Husband Arrested in Church Theft

A Heard County couple was arrested Thursday by the Coweta County Sheriff’s Department in relation to missing funds from a Coweta church.

According to the arrest report released today, Gerard Thifault, Jr. and Dena Thifault were both arrested and charged with Theft by Taking after a complaint was filed by representatives of the Oaklawn Baptist Church which is located at 482 Pine Road in Newnan,GA.

The report states that the Pastor David Arrington along with another church member Jimmy Head filed the complaint which charges that the couple (who were church officers) had allegedly been unlawfully appropriating funds from the church bank account.

According to the report the church members provided financial documents to corroborate their allegation.

As of this time, the report is incomplete so it is unclear exactly how much money is alleged to be missing.

We were able to contact Pastor Arrington via telephone Friday afternoon but he refused to comment on the case.

Dena Thifault, a Heard County Sheriff’s deputy since July of 1999, was currently serving as the Heard County Jail Administrator.

Stay tuned as we attempt to bring you further details about this case in the coming days.

  1. Innocent until proven guilty. But I would hope our Heard County goverment would launch an investigation to see if there was any wrong doings in the jail system since one of the accused persons were administrator.
