Heard County Schools delay opening until 10 AM Tuesday

(Franklin, GA) — Acting on the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, the Heard County School System this evening announced that Heard County schools will delay opening until 10:00 AM on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

The National Weather Service has warned that some counties basically north of I-20 may have black ice on roads as temperatures drop below freezing overnight.

Although icy roads are not directly expected to occur in Heard County, out of an abundance of caution Heard County schools will delay opening until 10:00 AM.

Temperatures tonight will drop into the lower 30’s across portions of central Georgia. The colder temperatures combined with moisture left on surfaces from recent precipitation will lead to slick or icy spots on roads as well as other surfaces such as porches, decks, and sidewalks Tuesday morning.

The most likely locations for black ice on roadways will be secondary or untreated roads as well as bridges and overpasses.

Buses will be delayed exactly three hours from normal morning pickup times and breakfast will NOT be served. Some students on buses may be arriving at the school after the 10:00 AM start.

Stay tuned to HeardCitizen.com for further updates as they are warranted.
