(Lagrange, GA) – A deadly Troup County car crash claimed the life of a Heard High School graduate Friday night.

According to reports by Gordy Wright, a Georgia State Patrol spokesperson, the crash occurred at 6:40 p.m. on West Point Road in Lagrange.

Both drivers died in the crash involving two passenger vehicles. They are identified as Willie L. Hooks, age 28, from LaGrange and Melanie Kay Lemmon (maiden name Sellers), age 23, also from LaGrange. Lemmon graduated from Heard High School in 2007.

Hooks was driving a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass and passing a vehicle in a no passing zone when his vehicle collided with a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Lemmon.

Georgia State troopers are working with the Troup County Coroner’s office to gather and confirm the identities of five other passengers in Lemmon’s vehicle.

Three of the passengers in the Pontiac died in the crash and two others were critically injured. A total of five fatalities have been confirmed at this time.

According to Wright’s report, alcohol is suspected as a possible contributing factor and blood was drawn from Mr. Hooks to determine a blood alcohol content.

It is truley sad that they died that young!! Im glad in that in my younger years i did not kill someone while iwas so stupid to drive and drink. And im glad i have quit drinking. So sorry for the families in both cars.

    • Christy- I am sure that you are aware, but just to make sure all understand….
I would like to make it clear that Melanie was NOT drinking. She was driving the car that was hit by a possible DUI driver. Melanie was not at fault. I just wanted to assure the readers that she and her passengers were the victims of another possibly DUI driver.

  4. Very sad. My deepest condolences to her family.

  5. Kim Hobgood says
