Denney has stated it is her intention to qualify to run for Commission Chair in March.

“I have been praying about running for Chairman for a while and I feel now is the right time,” Denney said in a statement released to The Heard Citizen Friday afternoon.

“I look forward to getting out and visiting the people in the county and hearing what they want for the future of Heard County.”

Denney’s resignation means that her District 2 board seat will now be added to the upcoming election ballots.

Election supervisor Tonnie Adams says qualifying information for the District 2 seat will be officially released in the coming days.

District 2 covers primarily the Centralhatchee and northeastern portions of Heard County. Denney has held the seat since the beginning of 2015.

Lee Boone is the current Chairman of the Board of Commissioners. Boone also held the District 2 seat for a number of years prior to becoming Chairman in 2013.
