Lady Braves Chop Onions to Land in Title Game

(Columbus,GA) — The Lady Braves continued to turn heads in Columbus Friday night where they shut out the Vidalia Indians 4-0 to secure a spot in the GHSA Class AA State Championship on Saturday.

Jordan Watson continued to show her opposition that if you can’t score you can’t win extending her scoreless inning streak to 48. She allowed only two hits and a walk with six strikeouts over seven innings and pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth inning.

Offensively, the Lady Braves once again reaped the rewards of solid hitting from the bottom of the order with the key blows in the game being back-to-back solo home runs by center fielder Johanna Beyer and junior left fielder Madison Whitehead in the bottom of the third inning.

The Lady Braves other runs came on a sac fly RBI that scored Cali Harrod in the first and an RBI double by Anna Shelnutt in the third.

The Lady Braves will now await the winner of Vidalia and Gordon Lee who play tomorrow morning.

Gordon Lee battled back with three wins Friday after a loss to Jeff Davis in yesterday’s first game.

First pitch in the championship series is scheduled for 11:40 a.m. Saturday with the Lady Braves needing just one win in two games to claim the first state title in school history in any sport.

The only other time a Braves team has advanced to a state championship game was in 1985 when Roger Harrod hit a walk-off two run double to defeat Bowdon in baseball and land the team in the Championship series which they lost to Calhoun County in three games.

  1. You forgot about the 2 state titles our power lifting team won

    • Russ Massa says:

The weightlifting titles were tremendous accomplishments but they aren’t GHSA sanctioned events with the entire state competing… Hopefully someday they might be…
