Lady Braves face elimination game versus Union County at 10 AM

(Franklin, GA) — After enduring an hour plus rain delay and dropping game one 6-4 to the visiting Union County Panthers Tuesday night, the Lady Braves bounced back to win game two 8-3 and force a deciding game three this morning (Wed) at Heard High.

Game two did not finish until after midnight and in an effort to beat the impending rains associated with Hurricane Michael, the teams will face off at 10:00 AM this morning in the deciding third game of the series.

Senior starting pitcher Haley Bennett earned the win in the nightcap and freshman Janiyah Strong blasted a homer. Beth Taylor drove in two runs with a base hit and defensively, Tori Caldwell made a diving catch to escape a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the first. Katelyn Jiles closed out both games in relief.

The GHSA waived typical starting time and day rules in order for state softball match-ups to be completed this week.

The winner of this morning’s rubber match will advance to meet Dade County in round two next week. Dade swept Washington of Atlanta Tuesday winning by scores of 19-0 and 12-0.

Other Class AA teams advancing past round one Tuesday included Rockmart, Harlem, Bleckley County, Berrien, Social Circle, and Chattooga.
