(Franklin, GA) — A local family including several children lost all of their belongings in a weekend home fire in northern Heard County.

According to a report released Monday afternoon by Heard County Fire Chief Steve Wirth, the rental property owned by Thomas Miller of Franklin is considered a total loss and the cause remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported as the home’s tenant Allen Ray and his family were not at home at the time of the fire.

The structure was fully involved when units arrived at around 7:30 p.m. Friday evening. Heard County fire and emergency crews remained on the scene at 33 Dowdy Road until 12:46 a.m. Saturday to bring the fire under full control.

Three Heard County students resided at the home including 10-year-old Nathan and 6-year-old Lorie who attend Centralhatchee Elementary School as well as 12-year-old Katie who attends Heard County Middle School.

Anyone in the community wishing to make donations of any kind to help the displaced family may contact Allen Ray at 678-628-1721 or Candace Ray at 470-214-4009.
