(Tifton, GA) – A young bull rider is in a Tifton hospital tonight after being injured by a bull during a South Georgia rodeo competition Sunday afternoon.
Lance Daniel, a 17-year old Heard High junior, was stepped on by the bull after completing his ride. According to Daniel he suffered five broken ribs and a bruised lung.
“I rode about five seconds on the rankest bull I’ve ever been on and I fell inside the spin. Then he threw me up against the panels with his head and when I went to get up and I was about half way standing, the bull’s back feet landed on my back. It snapped five of my ribs and bruised my lung,” Daniel said via email Sunday night.
He expects to return home after an overnight hospital stay. “I have to stay overnight and I should be released tomorrow. I appreciate everyone’s prayers and support,” stated Daniel.
Daniel has been riding bulls since he was 7-years-old and has won numerous rodeo titles and awards. He was also nominated last year for a Bravy Award for his upset win at the Heard County rodeo as only a 16-year-old.
