Newnan man charged in shooting deaths of 6 people in 3 days

(Newnan, GA) — A 38-year-old Newnan man is charged in the shooting deaths of six different people.

The alleged shooting deaths occurred over a 3-day period beginning last Thursday.

Nicholas Martez Nelson is officially charged at this time with four counts of murder but investigators say more charges are pending.

According to a report by The Newnan Times-Herald, the first deadly shooting of two males took place Thursday in the 200 block of East Broad Street near downtown Newnan.

On Saturday, police responded to the shooting death of one male victim on Dowdell Street.

Finally, police were summoned to the Motel 6 on Herring Road near 1-85 Sunday for a welfare check.

Inside a motel room, authorities discovered three more shooting victims that are believed to have been in the room since Friday.

As of Monday morning, authorities have not released the identities of any of the victims. Reports indicate a motive has not yet been determined at this time.

The investigation is being conducted by the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, the Newnan Police Department, ATF, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
