Overnight rollover wreck claims life of local man

Dan Kimble

Dan Kimble was a well-known Heard County musician and 2005 graduate of HHS

(Franklin, GA) — An overnight rollover crash claimed the life of a Heard County man early Sunday morning.

According to a report released by the Georgia State Patrol, 29-year-old Daniel Shawn Kimble of Franklin was killed early Sunday morning after a single-vehicle accident involving his pick-up truck on US HWY 27 south of Franklin.

Although the crash is believed to have occurred around midnight, authorities were not called until after sunrise Sunday morning as the vehicle was not in clear view of passers-by during the night.

A man riding a bicycle first noticed the debris field south of the intersection of HWY 100 east after the sun came up and proceeded to contact authorities.

Reports indicate Kimble was traveling in the left southbound lane of HWY 27 when his vehicle left the roadway and entered the median, overturning several times before jumping a guard rail and coming to rest in a wooded area about 500 feet from where his vehicle originally left the roadway.

Kimble was the driver of the vehicle and the only person involved in the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kimble is well-known locally as a talented musician and he was a multi-sport athlete at Heard County High School. He graduated with the Class of 2005.

Dan’s sister, Anna Kimble, made a statement on behalf of the family late Sunday afternoon.

“Thank you everyone for your prayers. My brother never met a stranger — he had the biggest heart and was always laughing,” said his sister.

“He loved his family (especially his niece and two nephews), his friends, and he loved playing his guitar and singing. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers as the days ahead are going to be the hardest we’ve ever had to endure.”

Stay tuned to HeardCitizen.com for funeral arrangements as soon as they are made available.
