Severe weather threatening the West Georgia area

(Franklin, GA) — The National Weather Service is forecasting a severe weather event for Heard County and the West Georgia area for the next 24 hours.

The forecast indicates multiple rounds of storms Sunday with the more intense rounds likely later this afternoon into tomorrow morning.

The timing on the most severe round is currently forecast for the Heard County area between 10:00 PM Sunday through 5:00 AM Monday morning.

The most likely impacts from this strong weather system are severe tornadoes, damaging winds, heavy rains, and hail.

The forecast currently places our area in a Moderate Risk (Level 3 out of 5).

Weather officials say this severe weather outbreak has the potential to be in the top 5 for most significant severe weather events of the last decade.  The most recent moderate risk in the West Georgia area was in April of 2017.
