Third suspect arrested in arson, insurance fraud case

(Franklin, GA) — A third person has been arrested in relation to an Arson/Insurance Fraud investigation that took place in September of 2019.

A burned out, abandoned vehicle located in Heard County already led to the arrests of two people from Carroll County last November and the third person arrested is also from Carroll County.

According to a report by Heard County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Mark Eakin, 28-year-old Donald Rogers, Jr. of Carrollton was arrested in Carroll County last Saturday and later transported to Heard County jail.

Rogers is charged with Arson and Insurance Fraud.

Heard County deputies originally responded to the report of an abandoned Ford F-150 Truck just off of Caney Head Road on September 22, 2019.

The vehicle was completely burned out.

Following an investigation, the owner of the truck and an additional female were arrested.

41-year-old Timothy Douglas Smith of Carroll County was arrested on Monday, November 18 and charged with Arson and Insurance Fraud.

A 29-year-old female, Ashleigh Nichole Pike of Carroll County was also arrested and charged with being party to the crimes.

Smith and Pike have since been released on bond and are awaiting further court proceedings.

A judge set a 50K bond Tuesday for Rogers and as of Wednesday afternoon he remains incarcerated in Heard County.
