Two Men Arrested After High-Speed Chase

(Franklin, GA) — Two men are in the Heard County jail and facing numerous charges Friday afternoon after leading Franklin Police officers and Heard County deputies on a high speed chase Thursday night.

According to a press release issued this afternoon by Franklin Police Chief Kevin Hannah, 32-year-old Tony Gerell Potts, II of Newnan and 30-year-old Kenyata Deonte Robinson of Franklin were both arrested after a motor vehicle pursuit that began in Franklin and ended on Glenn Rd. in western Heard County.

Reports indicate the pursuit began about 11:00 p.m. when FPD Officer Gary Morgan observed a Pontiac Bonneville with two occupants not wearing their safety restraints.

As Officer Morgan activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to conduct a motor vehicle stop, the vehicle sped away near the intersection of Franklin Parkway and Highway 34 West.

As the chase continued westbound on Highway 34, deputies from the Heard County Sheriff’s Department joined the pursuit.

The fleeing suspects led officers down Glenn, Whitley O’Neal, Victory, and Bethel West roads before returning to Glenn Road.

The pursuit ended on Glenn Road after the Bonneville blew out its right rear tire.

During the chase, officers observed the occupants throwing small bags from the vehicle even as the vehicle finally came to a stop.

Upon investigation of the content of these bags, officers discovered they contained methamphetamine, and inside the vehicle officers also discovered small scales, consistent with the packaging of drugs for distribution.

Tony Gerell Potts, identified as the driver of the Bonneville is charged with Fleeing and Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement, Safety Restraint Requirement, Mirror Requirement, Passing on a Hillcrest or in a Curve with Obstructed View, Speeding, Reckless Driving, Littering, Violation of Georgia’s Controlled Substance Act – Possession of Methamphetamine, Failure to Maintain Lane of Travel, Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer, and Possession of Dangerous Drugs.

The passenger of the vehicle, Kenyata Deonte Robinson, is charged with Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer, Violation of Georgia’s Controlled Substance Act – Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Dangerous Drugs, Littering, and Safety Restraint Requirement.

    First my cousin will never be crazy and it’s a another reason why they tried to stop them, how in the hell from a distance you see someone not having a seat belt on, Really!
