Virginia murder suspect arrested in Troup County

(Troup County, GA) — The Troup County Sheriff’s Office was notified early Tuesday that a suspect in a murder which occurred in Clifton Forge, Virginia was possibly headed to the local area.

At approximately 11:26 AM, an investigator with the Sheriff’s Office spotted a vehicle which the suspect, 41-year-old Kenneth Staples was believed to be in.

With the assistance of LaGrange Police Department, a traffic stop was initiated in the 400 block of New Franklin Road.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Troup County Jail.

According to the Clifton Forge Police Department in Virginia, officers were dispatched to 907 Jefferson Avenue yesterday for a welfare check and looked through the window to see a man lying on the floor.

After forced entry into the residence, police say they found the man was unresponsive with apparent head trauma — was already dead.

The victim has been identified as 41-year-old William Brandon Wright, a Clifton Forge resident.
