College Football at Staples Stadium

(Franklin, GA) — A couple of former Brave football players will make their college debuts at Staples Stadium tonight where the Berry College Vikings will take on the Huntingdon College (AL) Hawks in a scrimmage game.

Former Braves Chandler Polk and Jacob Bishop are freshman on the Vikings squad after signing with Berry last spring.

Jacob earned Region 5-AA All Region honors twice and was voted a team captain by his teammates. He also helped lead the Braves to four straight playoff appearances (2012-2015) and three Region 5-AA Championships.

Jacob is the son of Kimberly and Eddy Bishop and looks to pursue a sports administration major at Berry, along with a minor in Finance.

Polk also played for Coach Barron at HCHS. He totaled 29 receptions for 569 yards on offense and 89 tackles, one interception, three caused fumbles and 13 pass breakups on defense.

Polk received all-region honors in football and baseball and received the Brave Award.

He helped his team to two state playoff appearances as well as the region championships.

Chandler is the son of Helen Polk-Akins and Joey Akins. He will pursue an exercise science major at Berry.

Tonight’s scrimmage will kick off at 7:30 PM at Staples Stadium and admission is only $2 per person.
