Bremen edges Lady Braves

(Bremen, GA) — The Lady Braves battled to the very end Thursday night in Bremen before falling to the Lady Blue Devils 3-2 on a walk-off bases loaded walk.

Senior Jordan Watson started the game on the mound and pitched four innings before giving way to Sarah Schofield in the fifth inning.

Bremen plated two runs in the fifth and led 2-0 before the Lady Braves bounced back in the top of the seventh.

Johanna Beyer singled to get things started and scored after two pitches in the dirt and an attempted pick off throw at third that sailed away.

After an Anna Shelnutt single and a walk to Watson, Alexis Raines drove in the tying run to know the score up at 2-2 before Bremen rallied the game-winner off of Watson who re-entered in the middle of the inning.

“The bottom line is we didn’t make plays on defense we didn’t do our job on offense, ” said Coach Matt Hornsby after the game.

“Just talking about the little stuff — not moving our feet on defense and catching the ball, not running through the bags so we are a step faster, not getting our bunts down — if we do all those things we win the game and it doesn’t come down to a bottom of the seventh.”

The loss means the Lady Braves will carry the No. 3 seed into the region tourney which starts Thursday night in Bremen.

The Lady Braves will battle the No. 2 seed Bowdon at 6:00 p.m. followed by the Blue Devils hosting the winner of a Temple-Manchester play-in game. The winners of those two semi-final match-ups will battle for the Region 5-AA title Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Bremen.

The two losers will face off at 2:00 p.m. Saturday. On the line will be seedings for the State Playoffs which begin on October 14.
