(Atlanta, GA) — The Atlanta Journal and Constitution (AJC) released its annual all-state football team on Christmas day and Senior Heard County Brave defensive lineman Matt Brown was named to the first team defense.

The accolades continue to roll in for Brown who just recently earned the Region 5-AA Defensive Player of the Year award for the second straight season.

His first team nod on the 2015 AJC team follows up an honorable mention for his defensive efforts in 2014.

Brown bested his own school record for tackles by a defensive lineman with 132 this season after setting the record during his junior campaign with 120.

Brown also had 5.5 sacks, 19 tackles for a loss, five quarterback hurries, and a fumble recovery.

The only other Region 5-AA player to receive AJC first team honors was another defensive lineman, C.J. Brewer from Bowdon.

Other West Georgia area players to be named to the first team in other classes were linebacker Emanuel Bridges (Newnan), running back Ton Evans (Northgate), linebacker James Skalski (Northgate), and running back Cedric Maynard (Callaway).

As of this time, the Associated Press All-State team has not been made public.
