Bulldogs defeat Braves

(Cedartown, GA) — The Braves traveled to Cedartown Friday night where they were unable to overcome a big first quarter by the Bulldogs, falling 45-21 on homecoming night for the hosts.

After the Bulldogs scored early on a 51-yard rush by Zontorious Scofield, the Braves answered quickly fueled by a 79-yard kick off return by Junior Austin Barron which set up a 10-yard score by senior Pearce Kirk to tie the game at 7-7 with 10:13 still to play in the opening quarter.

Bulldog quarterback Harrison Barnett got the next two scores for the Bulldogs on the ground to give Cedartown a 21-7 lead headed to the second quarter despite one drive being halted by the Braves on an interception by freshman Jaden Moreland.

CedarBoth defenses stepped up in the second quarter with the lone score coming on a Bulldog field goal leaving a score of 24-7 Bulldogs at the break.

The Braves put together a long drive to open the third quarter but stalled on 4th down and short at the Bulldog 22-yard line.

Coach Barron’s young squad did have some bright moments late in the game as freshman Carlton White scored on a 32-yard scamper after a fumble recovery by Qua Daniels in bulldog territory.

Quarterback Emory Jones also competed a 24-yard TD pass to Austin Miller to make the final score 45-21.

The Braves (1-3) will look to regroup this week as they return home next Friday night to battle an old rival off to a big start in Class AA, the Macon County Bulldogs.
