(Gillette, WY) — A junior homeschool student from Franklin is competing at the NHSRA National Finals next week in Gillette, Wyoming.

17-year-old Calee Bell Duncan will be competing for a National Title in Pole Bending after finishing second in the event at the State Finals in Perry, GA during the spring.

The trip to Wyoming caps off a strong rodeo season where she was a five event qualifier at state.

Calee Bell competes in five rodeo events including Goat Tying, Breakaway Roping, Barrel Racing, Team Roping, and Pole Bending. She also finished strong at state in the Goat Tying event.

Calee Bell is excited about the tremendous opportunity.

“At the National Finals there are two long go’s. Each contestant gets two runs guaranteed when they qualify for Nationals,” explains Duncan. “The top 20 in the world in each event move onto the short go. It’s a three go average to see who wins that National Title.”

Calee Bell is also very involved in both the GHSRA and the NHSRA associations and was elected in Perry as the 2016-2017 student Vice President for the state of Georgia. She is also campaigning for National Student Officer in Wyoming.

“For the Student Officer election, I will have been campaigning and I will have to keep campaigning out there in Wyoming,” says Duncan.

“I will also have to go to meetings and give speeches. The delegates of each state vote on who they want as there President, Vice President, and Secretary. Each state gets one vote. I’m running for National Vice President.”

Calee Bell is in the process of making the long trip to Wyoming with four other Georgia female rodeo competitors and a huge entourage of family and friends.

The National Finals takes place from July 17-23.
