Catching Fire! Shelnutt heats up as Seminoles enter ACC Tourney

(Syracuse, NY) — Junior catcher Anna Shelnutt enjoyed a monster weekend at the plate as the Florida State Seminoles (48-8) swept Syracuse on the road to close out the regular season campaign.

Anna established a career high with four hits, including two home runs, a double and five RBI in Sunday’s 14-5 victory and for the the weekend, she posted an .800 batting average (8-for-10) with two doubles, three HR and eight RBI versus the Orange.

She and fellow former Lady Brave Cali Harrod will now aim for the top of the nation once again as the Seminoles prepare for the postseason beginning with the ACC Tournament later this week in Tallahassee.

FSU’s first game will be on Thursday, May 9 at 5:00 p.m. against the winner of No. 7-seed Georgia Tech and No. 10-seed Virginia.

The ACC semifinals will take place Friday afternoon and the ACC Championship game would be Saturday at noon if the Noles can get wins over the first two games.

Shelnutt won’t be sneaking up on anyone at the ACC Tourney after her memorable 3-run walk-off homer versus Pittsburgh clinched the same title a year ago in Atlanta.

Anna has been a workhorse behind the plate for the Noles starting in 48 of the 56 games and notching eight homers and 30 RBI’s.

Meghan King has carried the primary load on the mound with 26 wins in 29 starts and an awesome ERA of just 1.49.

Cali Harrod has started every game in her career and has enjoyed an outstanding senior season with 13 homers, 38 RBI’s and 38 stolen bases. She went 3-for-4 in Sunday’s win with a double.

The Seminoles are currently ranked No. 5 in the nation heading into the postseason so earning another trip to Oklahoma City will be the prime objective for the defending National Champions.

“Great way to finish out the regular season,” says FSU head coach Lonni Alameda. “The offense was just on fire today and made great adjustments from Friday and Saturday. Very proud of this team and he have grown so much from the beginning of the year. It has been challenging to figure out how to navigate some of the ups and downs, but I am really excited about the place we are in right now. Thrilled to head home and host the ACC Tournament and for everything else ahead of us.”

Saturday’s ACC Championship game will be broadcast live on the ESPN Network.
