Centralhatchee breaks ground on new City Hall

(Centralhatchee/Times~Journal) — On Monday, September 12, 2016, the Town of Centralhatchee had a ground-breaking ceremony for the new City Hall building located at 715 Centralhatchee Parkway.

Among those in attendance were Mayor Barbie Crockett, City Clerk Linda Rogers as well as City Council Members Eley Loftin, Walt Wiggins, Barbara Norwood, Emmett Jackson and Julia Hand.

The ceremony was held at 6:00 PM with around 30 people attending.

The new city hall will be a two-story 6000 sq. ft. building with offices upstairs to house the Mayor/City Clerk and a large room for City Council meetings. Downstairs will be a Community Center that will be rented out for community events. Storage will be downstairs as well with a  fireproof vault for important documents.

Tomco Construction out of Newnan, Georgia was hired for the construction, which began on August 17, 2016, with the completion date set for February, 2017.

The cost of the project is 1.2 million dollars, paid from SPLOST dollars.

According to Mayor Barbie Crockett, the old City Hall and Community Center will be turned into a public library for Centralhatchee.
