(Centralhatchee, GA) — The James Stewart Chapter, NSDAR, is pleased to announce their 2019-20 recipient of the DAR Youth Citizenship Award for Centralhatchee Elementary School.

Ethan Penados-Johnson was chosen by the school faculty as the student who best exemplifies the qualities of a good citizen.  Those qualities are honor, service, courage, leadership and patriotism.

Ethan is a member of the Braves Patrol and school chorus. Ethan has sat on the Student Council for the last three years where he participated in numerous community service projects within the county.

Ethan received the Georgia Reader of the Year Award while in the 2nd grade.

Most recently, Ethan was selected for the Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP). Participants in this special program are identified as academically talented students.

Selected students have the opportunity to utilize specialized educational programs which include weekend programs and residential summer programs, as well as distance and independent learning programs to ensure that they reach their highest potential.

Ethan is looking forward to attending Heard Middle school and hopes to be in the school choir. He is leaving his options open at present until he has a chance to explore the different activities. His future goal is to attend law school.

The DAR Youth Citizenship Program began in 1933 with the goal of recognizing the outstanding young people in our community who exhibit the qualities of good citizenship in their homes, schools and throughout the community.

One of the most rewarding activities for our chapter members is the opportunity to interact with Heard County students.

In addition to supporting DAR Schools around the country, we also support our local schools throughout the year in various programs and activities.
