Championship Softball Day in Heard County!

(Franklin, GA) — Today is a big day in the local softball landscape as both the Heard High Lady Braves and the Heard Middle Lady Braves will have the opportunity to play at home for their respective league championships.

At HCHS, the road will be a tougher one for the varsity Lady Braves who will need two big wins to secure another Region 5-AA title. They will first battle with rival Callaway at noon and with a win would then face either Lamar County or Bremen in the Championship game at 6:00 PM.

Lamar and Bremen will face off at 2:00 PM with the two losers then playing one another at 4:00 PM for third place in the region. It should be an exciting day of action with the Lady Braves, Bremen, and Lamar County all currently ranked in the top 10 in Class AA.

More importantly than region hardware, seedings for the GHSA Class AA State Playoffs are on the line. The state playoffs begin next week as Region 5-AA will go head-to-head in the first leg of the road to Columbus.

Rockmart has already claimed the Region 7-AA title and will host the lose of today’s 4:00 PM game in Franklin. Dade County is the No. 2 seed in 7-AA and will host the winner of the third place game.

The Region 5-AA Champion will host Pepperell while the Region 5-AA runner-up will host Chattooga.

The best-of-three first round state playoffs start with a doubleheader next Tuesday and third and deciding “if” games would be played on Wednesday.

At HCMS, the Lady Braves are in the title game at 5:00 PM today and will host the Bowdon Red Devilettes.

The HCMS Lady Braves won impressively 15-0 over Temple in a home semifinal game Wednesday.

The middle Lady Braves have been dominant again this year going undefeated in small school play and finishing 10-1 overall. The lone loss came to Carrollton on September 3.

A win over Bowdon today would give the middle Lady Braves a third straight West Georgia Middle School Championship.

Starting pitcher LilyRae Fulford again led the way in the circle in Wednesday’s semifinal going three innings and allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out six Tiger batters.

Several Lady Braves had big days a the plate led by Aubree Ussery with three hits including a triple and two RBI’s. Natalie Schneider drove home three with her two base hits which included a double.

Kallee Crockett also doubled and drove home three with her two hits while Emily Mock had a run scoring triple.

Braleigh Watkins scored twice and drove home two and swiped yet another base to give her a team-high nine for the season. Alexia Lower and Chloe Cummins each scored two runs.
