Chapter 2587 Members Receive 11 State Awards

(Macon, GA) — President Mary Lane and Registrar Carla Brown attended the Georgia Division United Daughters of the Confederacy Convention held in Macon on September 25-27 and brought home 11 state awards that were presented to our chapter.

These awards reflect the wonderful work our chapter members are doing. Members reading books for enjoyment rewarded the chapter. The cards sent to our Randolph Relief Fund recipients rewarded our chapter. Our Celebration of Confederate Memorial Day rewarded our hearts and our chapter.

President Mary Lane walked in the Chapter Presidents’ Processional and gave a wonderful speech about all the good things our chapter accomplished last year, especially honoring our local veterans. After the meeting, the third district director congratulated Mary on the excellent job Heard County Chapter is doing.

Before heading back to Heard County, the ladies visited historic Fort Hawkins, learning that the fort was built on the site where James Oglethorpe camped on his way to Coweta town in the early days of Georgia’s history. The fort was use during the War of 1812 and the War Between the States as well as serving to protect the early settlers of the Macon area.
