(Franklin) — On Saturday, December 13, 2014 employees from the Heard County Emergency Agency, the Heard County Sheriff’s Office and the Franklin Police Department came together and challenged the Heard County High School teaching staff  in a charity basketball game to benefit the Heard County Toys for Tots drive.

During the holidays, we are reminded how important it is to deposit back into the community and assist those families who may be experiencing difficulties providing food, clothes and toys for their children.

This basketball game was coordinated just for that purpose, to assist Heard County residents who may need a little help this season. Charity starts at home and then spreads abroad.

I would like to extend gratitude by thanking the Heard County High School for allowing the game to take place on campus and to all the teachers, firemen and law enforcement officers who willingly participated.

A special thanks to Kristin Chaffin for her assistance, Edna Goss and Lauren Repetto for refereeing the game, and the businesses that donated gift cards which were given away during a drawing after the game, Store to Door Pizza, Wow Advertisment, KM&J, Gum Creek Airport, Loco Mex and to all who came out and donated to support this event, thank you.

A truck load of toys, canned goods and $272.00 cash was presented to Sheriff Ross Henry to assist him with helping families throughout Heard County.

It was a great night on the court with the Teachers defeating Public Safety 36-35 in a wild finish.
