Cougars edge Braves in Columbus

(Columbus, GA) — The Braves dropped a close non-region game on the road Tuesday falling 3-2 to the Class A private Brookstone Cougars.

The Braves rallied from a 3-0 deficit with two runs in the top of the sixth before the Cougars closed the door to take the one run win.

Tray Owens started the game for the Braves and threw five innings and giving up three earned. He scattered seven hits and walked just one while striking out four.

Kellon Rollings pitched one scoreless inning in relief.

At the plate, Chance Brown led the way with two base hits and Will Hammett drove one home with a double in the two run sixth.

Caden Raines and Tanner Collins also had base hits in the loss.

The Braves will return to Alford Field for another tough non-region tilt versus the Lovett School this Friday at 6:30 PM before hitting the road to Columbus again on Saturday to face Calvary Christian at 4:30 PM. (Editor’s Note: The Lovett game has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 4 at 5PM)

A huge Region 5-AA series versus arch rival Callaway looms on the horizon for next week.

The Braves (9-12, 6-6) will host the Cavs on Tuesday before traveling to Lagrange for a series final doubleheader on Friday.

The GHSA State Playoffs get underway April 24-25 with Region 5-AA battling Region 8-AA in round one.
