Daniel covers again for UWA Rodeo Team

(Marshall, MO/uwaathletics.com) — For the second straight week former Heard County Brave Lance Daniel was the only Ozark Region bull rider to cover a bull, while the West Alabama women’s rodeo team finished second and the men fifth in the annual Viking Stampede Rodeo hosted by Missouri Valley College.

Daniel scored 80 in the second round of bull riding and was the only rider of 15 to complete a ride at the Saline County Fairgrounds for his second consecutive win of the fall season.

Lance is a junior at West Alabama and a 2014 graduate of Heard High School and the son of Jonathan and Sherry McLain.

Max Dever-Boaz also took first in the first round and in the average in calf roping to round out top performers for the Tiger Wrangler men.

Katelyn Nicholson was second in the first round and the short go, but finished first in the average for goat tying to help the UWA women to the runner-up spot.

Ali Ayers was second in the short go and third in the average in barrel racing, while Cady Cooper won the long round and was fifth in the breakaway roping average.

Missouri Valley won the men’s rodeo with 880 points, followed by East Mississippi Community College (480), Southern Arkansas (370), Tennessee-Martin (300), UWA (230), Pearl River Community College (50) and Northwest Community College (40).

MVC also won the women’s side with 330 points, followed by West Alabama (310), Tennessee-Martin (300), Arkansas-Monticello (180), Southern Arkansas (80), East Mississippi Community College (40) and Three Rivers (40).

 “I am very proud of our team. They are all believing in themselves and it shows,” UWA head coach Alex Caudle said. “I am really looking forward to this weekend.”

West Alabama hosts the annual UWA Rodeo Showdown Thursday through Saturday at the Don C. Hines Rodeo Complex. Performances each night begin at 7:30 p.m.

General admission is $10, children $5 and UWA students admitted free with a valid student ID. UWA All-Sports Passes will also be honored for admission. Parking is included in the cost of admission.
