DAR announces American History Contest for 2021-22

(Franklin, GA) — Heard County students are invited to participate in our DAR American History Essay Contest.

The contest is open to Grades 5 – 8. Title of Essay: “The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.”

November 11, 2021, marks the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Imagine that you had a brother who lost his life on the battlefield of France during World War I.  You and your family attended the November 11, 1921, dedication of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, DC.

Describe what this meant to you and your family. Why is it important to remember those who gave their lives to serve our nation?

One essay at each grade level will be selected as the chapter winner and forwarded to the state American History chairman for state competition.

Deadline for the contest is November 1, 2021.
