DAR hosts local artist during Women’s History Month

(Franklin, GA) — Members of the James Stewart Chapter, NSDAR, met on March 13th to commemorate March being Women’s History Month.

Their special guest speaker was local writer and photographer, Debbie R. Hudson.

Author of “Putting Nature in Focus,” Ms. Hudson spoke about her desire to capture nature’s beauty and her passion for photography.

She shared the motivation and drive behind her book and the benefits nature can offer.

Debbie shared 11 Scientific Reasons Why Being in Nature is Relaxing:

  • Vitamin D helps the body function more efficiently

  • Natural light normalizes your sleep schedule

  • Being in nature causes you to unplug

  • A natural environment helps you center your mind

  • It gives your brain the downtime it needs to recharge

  • It lowers stress hormone levels

  • Fresh air improves blood pressure

  • Breathing  is your body’s built-in stress buster

  • Oxygen affects your sense of well-being

  • Bacteria in soil boosts your serotonin level

  • Physical activity pumps up your endorphins

Ms. Hudson’s book will soon be joining other local artists in the Heard County Historical Society’s exhibit currently on display at the Old Jail Museum.

Women’s History Month is a legally declared international celebration honoring the contributions of women to history, culture, and society.

Since 1987, it has been observed annually during the month of March.
