(Atlanta, GA) – Dennis Dixon from Coweta County has been appointed as commander of Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Troop D.
Troop D is comprised of patrol posts located in Griffin, Lagrange, Villa Rica, Newnan, Thomaston, Manchester, and Forsyth that cover 20 counties in West Georgia. Troop D headquarters is located in Thomaston.
Capt. Dixon began his career with the Department of Public Safety in 1990 as a Radio Operator at GSP Thomaston. He was promoted to Trooper Cadet in May of 1992 and graduated from the 66th Trooper School in November of 1992.
Upon graduation, Capt. Dixon was assigned to GSP Newnan. He was promoted to Assistant Post Commander in Thomaston and later as the Post Commander at GSP Manchester.
In 2003, he was assigned to the department’s Operation Review Unit and promoted to Lieutenant. Following Operation Review, Capt. Dixon was assigned as the Assistant Troop Commander of Troop G in Southwest Georgia before being promoted as the Troop Commander.
In 2011, Capt. Dixon was named Deputy Director of the Office of Professional Standards where his responsibilities included the oversight of internal affairs, background investigations, polygraphs and radar compliance. He held that position until his recent appointment as Troop D Commander on August 1st.
Capt. Dixon resides in Coweta County.
