Several local citizens awoke to find their mailboxes damaged, destroyed, or stolen on Saturday morning August 25.
Unknown vandals targeted numerous homes primarily in the western part of Heard County.
The Heard County Sheriff’s Office received numerous reports of mailbox damage in the areas of Victory Road, Whitley O’Neal Road, and Bevis Road as well as other areas throughout the county.
Since many homeowners did not officially report the damage it is unclear exactly how many boxes were targeted although local post office employees estimated the numbers to be at least several dozen.
“This kind of vandalism is just senseless,” stated one homeowner who wished to remain anonymous. “As if we don’t have enough bills to pay now I have to spend another $50 to replace my entire mailbox and post because somebody was out having a good time. This kind of thing infuriates me.”
Anyone with any information about these incidents are asked to please call Heard County Sheriff’s Office investigators at (706) 675-3329.
