Driver facing several charges following January crash

(Franklin, GA) — A Franklin man is facing several charges including DUI following a high-speed single vehicle crash last month just south of downtown Franklin.

Andy Wayne Elkins, age 41, was life-flighted to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus on January 17 with non life-threatening injuries after he crashed into an embankment at the intersection of Franklin Parkway and U.S. Hwy 27.

According to a report by the Franklin Police Department, Officer Gary Morgan of the FPD had just turned around to pursue Elkins’ speeding vehicle prior to the crash.

Morgan initially clocked Elkins via radar at a speed of over 70 MPH near the Tuscan Hills subdivision, but soon after turning around to pursue then clocked Elkins via rear radar device traveling at over 90 MPH.

According to GSP reports, Elkins continued down Franklin Parkway in a 1995 Mitsubishi 3000 GT where he drove through a stop sign and straight into the embankment on the opposite side of Hwy 27 where he crashed. The crash occurred around 9:30 PM.

Elkins is charged with Driving Under The Influence, Possession Of An Open Container, Failure To Stop At A Stop Sign, and Failure To Maintain Lane.
