(Flat Rock, AL) — A fisherman on Lake Wedowee drowned Tuesday afternoon while launching his boat.

According to investigator Donnie Strain, who is also a diver with Randolph County Rescue Squad, the victim was identified as Timothy James Decourcey, 64, of Shady Grove Lane, Lineville.

Around 5 p.m., responders were dispatched to New Harmony Boat Ramp on Big Fox Creek, which is just north of Flat Rock Park, near the Clay County line. Other boaters and fishermen had noticed a truck that had been backed up at the boat ramp for a few hours, but they had not seen anyone around it.

Rescue squad divers Strain, Matt Knight and Scott Sorrell searched for Decourcey, and Clay County Rescue Squad dragged the lake. His body was discovered after about two hours near the boat ramp in deeper water.

Responding to the scene were both rescue squads, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and Alabama Marine Police.
