Echols scores 24 as HCMS sweeps Tigers

(Franklin, GA) — The Heard County Middle School basketball teams swept the visiting Temple Tigers at HCMS Monday.

The Lady Braves downed the Lady Tigers by a final score of 54-30 to remain undefeated with just two regular season games remaining. Coach Shaqueri Talmadge’s squad also knocked off Villa Rica on the road last Thursday.

Ten different Lady Braves scored in Monday’s win with Jayden Boykin’s 14 leading the way. Amaya Hammel had a strong effort with 10 points, Shyann Kelley finished with seven and Jasmine Owens scored six points.

Top scorers in Thursday’s hard-fought 43-39 road win at Villa Rica were Boykin with 11, Owens with nine, Kelley with seven, and Brooklyn Curbow with seven.

Jonathan Echols scored 24 for the Braves Monday night

In boys’ action Monday, the Braves defeated the Tigers 44-30.

Jonathan Echols had a huge game for Coach Zerick Green and the Braves scoring an outstanding 24 points — one of the top scoring games in middle school history.

Echols had nine points in both the second and third quarters and closed out the game with six fourth quarter points.

L.J. Green also finished in double digits with 10 while RoRo Edmondson scored six.

The Braves fell to the Wildcats 48-36 on Thursday at Villa Rica. The Braves were led by Echols with 10 and Camden Cosper with eight points.

The middle teams recognized their eighth graders prior to Monday night’s final home game and face tow more road match-ups before the playoffs.

The squads will travel to Bay Springs this Thursday and Mt. Zion next Thursday. The West Georgia Middle School Championship Tournament takes place at Bay Springs January 28-31.
