Doyle Scott
Candidate for Sheriff of Heard County
75 Redland Road
Franklin, GA 30217
(706) 675-6270
To My Friends and Neighbors:
Heard County has experienced great growth and change over the years and in order for this great county that we call home to continue to grow, changes must be made. It is for this reason I have decided to run for the office of Sheriff of Heard County.
I have lived in Heard County my entire life, as has my wife; the former Janet Bledsoe. I have one son and daughter-in-law, James and Allison Scott and one granddaughter, McKinley. I am a 1971 graduate of Heard County High School and was very active in athletics. I graduated from the Georgia Police Academy in 1976 and have attended several workshops and training sessions on various topics and behaviors from burglary to child abuse to drug awareness between 1976 and 1988.
I have over 18 years of law enforcement experience within Heard County. I served many years as a county deputy under Sheriff Virgil Bledsoe, who shared his great knowledge of what it meant to be in law enforcement with me. I was elected Sheriff of Heard County after the retirement of Sheriff Bledsoe in 1980, and served until 1988. I then joined the City of Franklin Police Department in 1989 and remained there until 1993.
When elected, I want the people of Heard County to know that I understand this is not a 9-5 job. This is a position that must be taken seriously, and I will be attending workshops and classes to keep myself and the Sheriff’s Department up-to-date with all the latest tools needed to provide this county with the type of law enforcement needed to maintain safety.
I will have an Open Door Policy and be available to the personnel and staff of the Sheriff’s Department as well as the citizens of Heard County and all other law enforcement in the surrounding areas. I promise to serve and protect the citizens of Heard County, to show equality to all people, and make Heard County a safe and prosperous place to live. I want all the people of Heard County to know that I am hard-working, honest, and most of all one of you.
The Sheriff’s Office must have an Administrative Deputy that receives and analyzes each complaint that a citizen might allege. The Sheriff’s Office must also have a secure procedure by which any person may report potential crimes or abuses. Methamphetamine and abuse of prescription drugs have become serious issues in Heard County and the Sheriff’s Office must develop a method to eliminate such abuses, as well as a way to handle more traditional drug issues.
Our children are our greatest resource and the future of this county and I feel that a deputy should again be placed with each school; not only as a teaching tool, but as someone who helps to provide a safe environment for our children to learn.
If you would like to see the changes that I have proposed and other significant changes within the Sheriff’s Department, you must vote for me, DOYLE SCOTT, as your next Sheriff on November 6, 2012.
Thank you for your vote and support and let’s change for the best!
