EPD declares Level 1 drought response in North Georgia

(Franklin, GA) — The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) declared a Level 1 drought response for 53 Georgia counties on Friday including Heard County.

The response requires public water systems to implement public information campaigns to advise customers on how to be “good stewards of our water resources,” according to an EPD press release.

That press release provided the following examples of the steps that residents can take to help conserve water:

• Regularly check for, and repair, leaks inside and outside the home.

• Don’t leave the tap running. When shaving, brushing teeth, washing face, turn off the tap.

• Only water your landscape when necessary and adjust sprinklers so only your lawn is watered and not the house, sidewalk or street.

More water conservation information can be found at epd.georgia.gov/water-conservation.
