(Ephesus, GA) — Cali Harrod’s senior softball season at Florida State University could not be going much better for her or her team as the squad recently passed the halfway mark of the regular season.

The defending National Champions are off to a tremendous 25-2 start in 2019 with a No. 3 National Ranking heading into today’s series versus Notre Dame. The team started 22-0 before dropping their first two games of the year to Grand Canyon and Arizona on a recent road trip.

Ephesus, Georgia’s favorite daughter has been a huge key to the strong start. Harrod has compiled some of the best stats in the country in NCAA Division 1 softball and has not shown any signs of slowing down during her final season as a Nole.

Entering the Notre Dame series today, Cali was batting .456 with eight homers, five doubles, one triple, 23 RBI’s and 33 runs scored with 21 stolen bases in just 23 attempts.

She hit her ninth homer in her first at bat today as the Noles took the first game of the series over the Irish by a final score of 11-1.

Nationally, Cali is among the stat leaders nationally in hits, average, homers, and steals. She has also been solid in the field with only three errors at her busy shortstop position this season.

The Heard County native also continues to be patient at the plate with 20 walks this season after drawing 44 free passes during her junior season — ninth in FSU history.

Her scorching hot start has earned her many accolades this season including being named the National D-1 Player of the Week by The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and the ACC Co-Player of the Week in late February.

Cali stole her 100th career base earlier this season to place her among the all time leaders in FSU softball history and could not be doing much more to help her team as it aims for a back-to-back National Championship.

Perhaps even more impressive than the lofty statistical numbers Harrod has put up this season is her continued durability over the long term. The lead-off hitter has started every game for the Seminoles during her four year career just as she did in high school for the Heard County Lady Braves.

Her former Lady Brave teammate and current FSU teammate Anna Shelnutt is also playing some solid softball this season and entered the weekend series versus the Irish with four homers and 16 RBI’s while starting 24 of 27 games behind the plate for head coach Lonni Alameda.

Alameda won her 500th game on February 24 in her 11th season as the Seminole skipper (500-150-1, .769 winning percentage). She now holds a career record of 657-308-2, as she coached at UNLV from 2004-08.

The weekend series versus Notre Dame kicked of the ACC season for the Noles. The Seminoles will host the 2019 ACC Championship May 8-11 in Tallahassee.
