(Franklin) — The Heard County Water Authority announced the hiring of Ms. Laurie Cook recently as the new Executive Director.

Ms. Cook held various jobs in state government working in the environmental health division.

During that time she worked with different programs that were environmentally impacted including on site sewage systems, wells, permits, well water testing, rabid animals, construction plans for restaurants, hotels, motels, and inspections.

As a regional director she was responsible for overseeing twelve counties in the West Georgia area, including Heard County. She has a strong background in management and administration that will help her in the position.

She believes in customer service and enjoys working with the public. She also believes this will be a good fit for her and is excited to be here.

She stated that the people she has met have been inviting and friendly and she is looking forward to getting to know the citizens and the leaders of the community.

She recalled finding out some 20 years ago that Heard County had a water system and thought they were forward thinking for a rural county.

Ms. Cook declined a position to return to the state because she sees this as a great opportunity, a beautiful county with a potential for growth, and a great staff.
