Faced with Economic Adversity UIW Cancels Show

Universal Independent Wrestling has cancelled this Friday’s regularly scheduled pro wrestling show at the UIW Arena just off the square in Franklin.

UIW promoter Bill Bagley told the Citizen in an exclusive interview that the building and utility costs have become more than the company can afford at this time which has forced him to cancel the show.

He assured us that UIW will continue to operate in more cost effective locations and that he hopes to return to Franklin very soon. He said that other venues in Roanoke (AL), Newnan, and Lagrange are being looked at as possible future sites.

The very popular show featuring several entertainers originally began as a fundraiser  in February of 2010 at the Heard County Recreation Department before being abruptly shut down on August 9th, 2010 by county officials despite many objections from the local community and fans of the show.

The show debuted at it’s current location on October 22, 2010 in the old auction building located behind Certus Bank.

Many local wrestling stars such as former WWE Star Bull Buchanan, Murder One, and Cru Jones have entertained the all age audience bi-weekly for the past 18 months. We will keep you updated to any further developments in this story in the coming days.

Former WWE Superstar Bull Buchanan prepeares to enter the ring to face the legendary "Pretty Boy" Doug Somers at the UIW Arena on July 4th, 2011
