Winter has arrived. This means dig out all of your long sleeve shirts, sweaters, boots, knit tops, and scarves from the back of your closet.

It is time to stop wearing flip-flops, shorts, and tank tops unless you want to freeze to death. It is also January, which means a new year. Maybe it is time to change up your wardrobe a bit.

If you are more partial to the t-shirt, skinny jeans, and converse look, then try something different. Try a dressy blouse instead of the worn out t-shirt. You can still keep you skinnies.

Wear boots or flats instead of the converse. Now, it is time for accessories. You do not want to be too blinged out because you will look ridiculous and blind people.

Try a simple necklace and earrings. When I say earrings, I do not mean hoops that you can fit your fist through. Small studs will work. You can find these accessories and clothes at local stores such as Rue 21, T.J. Maxx, Belk’s, and Charming Charlie.

Maybe you like to dress up often. Remember you are dressing for school, not a social outing. You can still dress nice, just try less heels and more Sperry’s. Instead of a skirt, try some jeans. Wear a cute top with a scarf or even a t-shirt. The Barnes Store, Hibbetts Sports, and some restaurants all carry suitable t-shirts that you can wear without looking like a homeless person.

If you tend to stick to camouflage, t-shirts, hoodies, and cowboy boots, try being more dressy with your new wardrobe. A nice blouse with a belt around the waist or a scarf is always a good combination.

Even a plaid button up looks nice if you want to retain some of your country wear. Instead of those cowboy boots, wear ankle boots. They look great with skinny jeans. Stop wearing that baggy hoodie.

The North Face and Columbia jackets have gotten popular, and you can wear them with basically everything. Not only will they keep you warm, but they are cute, too. You can find them at Dick’s Sporting Goods or the Barnes Store.

Hopefully you fit into one of these categories and this will help you with your new wardrobe for the new year. Remember to use accessories but not to overdo it with them. Try new things. Be different. Make sure to still be classy with your choice of clothing and shoes.

In other words, do not wear thigh high boots or super low cut blouses. Also, make sure you can breathe in your jeans. If you cannot, this is not good for you, and it can be very unsettling for others to see.

Remember, you can still be yourself if you step out of your comfort zone, and wear different clothes.
