(Franklin/Times~Journal) — On Thursday, October 6 Heard County Firefighters performed a fire safety sketch at Heard County Elementary School to teach children the importance of fire safety.

Students were taught about an escape plan in case of a fire. Firefighters also taught the students kitchen safety as well as what to do if their clothes caught on fire.

Sparky the Fire Dog and friends performed for students in Pre-K through the 3rd grade. Fire hats were passed out to each of the students as the performance was finished.

Firefighters had a smokehouse drill outside the school for 4th and 5th grade students. Students experienced first hand the dangers of a smoke-filled house and were taught an escape plan as well as many other fire safety tips.

The event was held at Ephesus Elementary on October 5 and will also be presented at Centralhatchee Elementary on October 17.
