Earlier this month, State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge named 824 Georgia Title I Distinguished Schools and four Title I Distinguished Districts.

Title I Distinguished Schools that have made AYP for three consecutive years are awarded a certificate, while those who have made AYP ten or more years receive a monetary award, paid for out of federal funds.

Title I schools have significant populations of students who are economically disadvantaged. These schools receive federal money to assist with the education of their students. Title I Distinguished Schools have made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) at least three years in a row.

The Heard County School System has 4 Title I Schools, all being recognized as Distinguished Schools.

Centralhatchee Elementary: 9 Consecutive years making AYP and 7 years as a Distinguished School.

Ephesus Elementary: 9 Consecutive years making AYP and 7 years as a Distinguished School.

Heard Middle: 8 Consecutive years making AYP and 6 years as a Distinguished School.

Heard Elementary: 6 Consecutive years making AYP and 4 Years as a Distinguished School.

Congratulations to all the Principals, Faculty and Staff, students and their families for working so hard to achieve this honor!
